SEA - WOOOOT! - http://www.thestranger.com/seattle/Content?oid=167298

n Tuesday, February 27, three-term Seattle City Council Member Peter Steinbrueck announced that he will not seek reelection to the council later this year. Instead, Steinbrueck says, he will work full time to promote the surface/transit option to replace the Alaskan Way Viaduct, an option that has gained momentum as opposition to a new elevated viaduct and a politically moribund tunnel has grown.

"I can't think of anything more motivating than to take this on with all the energy and time and commitment I can possibly muster, and I can't see doing that while running for reelection," Steinbrueck, whose father, Victor, famously battled to save Pike Place Market, says. "If I'm out running, it will be a huge distraction from what really matters to me: preventing a hostile new imposition on our central waterfront and working toward a better way that's sustainable, environmentally responsible, and affordable." (Steinbrueck's comments echo an exuberant speech he made at the Friends of Seattle kickoff party last month, to wild applause.) Steinbrueck has won his last two elections with overwhelming margins, making him a credible potential spokesman for the antiviaduct cause; in 2003, he defeated his opponent with 82 percent of the vote.

Steinbrueck says he hopes to build a large coalition between the various environmental and urban-planning groups that currently oppose the new elevated viaduct, one of two options on the ballot March 13. Those include pro-surface/transit groups like the People's Waterfront Coalition, Friends of Seattle, and the Sierra Club, as well as more mainstream environmental groups like Transportation Choices and Futurewise, which both support the mayor's tunnel. "Until we get the election behind us, we can't really jell into a larger, more powerful civic coalition," Steinbrueck says.

uh-oh! - Early peek: 2007 Seattle City Council elections

25 January 2007
Early peek: 2007 Seattle City Council elections

Even at this early date, three presumably credible challengers have filed for this fall's Seattle City Council seats. The first to announce was Timothy Burgess, formerly Chair of the Seattle Ethics and Elections Commission and the Queen Anne Community Council. Burgess has a reputation as a moderate, and is currently running against incumbent David Della for the 7th position. Of course, as Dwight Pelz showed us in 2005, this is not set in stone. The next to file was Bruce Harrell, an attorney who once worked for then-Councilman Paul Kraabel. Harrell has not singled out which incumbent to oppose. The third candidate is Venus Velazquez, who has apparently filed just in the last few days. She was a finalist for the appointment to replace Jim Compton last year, an appointment that would eventually go to Sally Clark. However, Velazquez has set her sights on first-term incumbent Jean Godden rather than Clark, who made quick work of frequent candidate Stan Lippman in last fall's special election.

The other incumbents whose seats are up this year are Peter Steinbrueck and Tom Rasmussen.

Labels: Bruce Harrell, Seattle elections, Timothy Burgess, Venus Velazquez

so, the Seattle crew is having our first meeting next wednesday. And another one the Tuesday after that. and probably more even soon after that.

We will get organized and congeal as a pulsing group mind. mmmm. congeal.

AND we will plan events (fundraiser parties! party parties! communiversity!!!)to go to to educate folks about the election process, probably try to get voter reg people to come out, and also try and recruit more candidates!!!

so far, to participate - we need to have some meetings, make strategic plans, and go to parties and do some outreach and some paperwork.

not too bad!

20 people who will run for city council under a new model of collective governance are requested to contact me immediately! Forward this to everyone you know who is eligible to vote in Seattle.

Everyone must create their own platform and bring ideas with them. Poster - making party at my house, to be announced.

Also, we need to have a strategy session of who will go to which parties and get signatures and otherwise get the general public aware of and involved in this crazy political re-purposing.

OK, i need 19 other folks to run here in Seattle. Owen?! Jordan?! Others!?

We need about 900 signatures, so if 20 of us run, that's 45 unique signatures EACH - EASY!!!!

Also, I talked strategy with MM earlier this week - I was feeling stressed about hosting events, etc.

I'm going to ask to piggy-back on three or four events before the end of June.

We have to turn in our papers at the end of July.

We can use the already existing- moving currents of our beloved human community to rally the support / get the signattures we need.

We do not have to throw a big party here in Seattle or get freaked out. Our friends already throw lots of huge parties. We need to ask them if we can have booths/tables at the parties AND stilt around at out door events and have VOTER REGISTRATION folks at all of our big parties.

Whew!

Folks in other cities: Get your crews of at least 20 together - try to get as diverse a group of folks together as possible - all to get on the city council ballot for fall. This is to show that freaks know what's up, that local politics is where the power is, and that we can turn out a vote. Also, this is to put forth a new model - of running with and against simultaneously - we will all agree to be each other's advisers at the end - none of us will be dis-cluded from having a voice - we will each say what we stand for, and the combined power of 20 people (or more!) with all the skills, gifts, and connections each person brings - is so much more whole and interesting that the same boring blah-blah person "" i will run your city in a more effective way, if you elect me...blah!)...

Questions?! Ideas?! Ping me.

Bringing Animal Sex back to being legal. They don't call it bestiality any more. animal sex. seriously.

Uhm, so I need more folks to run with me and against me - come out of the darkness! run ! run!

World - How many burners DOES it take to win an election?!

Uhm, so if there are 1000 burners here in Seattle (just for giggles, I mean, who the F@#$$! knows how many of us there actually are? We're a bit under the radar as far as counting goes...). Burners know people and work in places and also reach out to community beyond themselves, right? So, if those 1,000 "burners" know 20 King County registered voters each, that's 21,000 votes, just about ONE THIRD of the FAWKING way to the low vote (about 70K) needed to win by one city council member. We CAN do this, yo!

Use your charisma and your fire power...use whatever you have to - get all of us some votes...

My father is at this moment dying of cancer and I don't know if I will make it to FL before he passes - I am leaving on the 18th, and can't sleep now, so I SAY TURN THE FUCKING PAIN INTO ART - ALL OF YOU!

How can you help?! Start your own tribe for the BS party... the Klown Party - the party party, whatever you're feeling, even if it is the "Americans for Animal Sex Party..." Whatever makes you want to be politically active, start getting up and getting down, y'all. I'm calling the elections folks tomorrow to see what is getting voted on in February.

We are all making our own campaigns, TOGETHER! we all krazy like that. Also, we will be throwing parties in the near future, in order to get the 1,000-ish signatures we need to pull this off. I know you're all up for a good party party.

SEA - Bits from that last post that need to be repeated!!! Only about 1,000 signatures needed to get on the ballot. How many burners live here!?

***Getting on the ballot requires either 1 percent of the salary of the position for which you're applying, or an equivalent amount (in dollars) of signatures. For example, the 2003 filing fee for a City Council position, which has a salary of $84,815, was $848.15, unless you gathered 848 signatures.

Considering how relatively easy this is, I'm amazed the ballot isn't stuffed with candidates. I did, however, have to scour the Web to find a contact with the Seattle Ethics and Elections Commission who could give me these details. There's more information at www.metrokc.gov/elections/ca.../general.htm.

***This idea to run for office doesn't just go for college students. According to RCW 29, found using the Washington State Legislative search, if you are a registered voter, you can run for office, which means you could run as early as age 18.

Further, getting enough votes shouldn't be impossible. In our last election, the least number of votes needed to win was 62,383 by Tom Rasmussen for City Council. With around 35,000 students at the University of Washington, for example, you're halfway there (though you'd need to account for non-resident students).

Justin Saint Clair / NEXT team
Don't despair, young voters: Run for office!

With the battle for the White House fully engaged and the political propaganda machines on full throttle, I'm facing my usual dilemma: What can I do to make the most impact?

I struggle with the feeling of helplessness many people my age feel at this point — the nagging doubt that most likely, nothing I do will make an ounce of difference.

In deciding to shake my political depression and truly make a difference, I came up with a brilliant idea: Why don't I run for office? If I want to really make a difference, what better way is there?

After having read "Stupid White Men," in which Michael Moore writes of his becoming a member of his local school board while still in high school, my idea seemed more possible and reasonable than ever. If anything, I thought, tons of young people should run for office. Hey, it's legal!

My idea to run for office, however, was deflated when I realized that if I, in some strange twist of fate, managed to win a race, I'd probably have to quit my job. While I may decide to do that for a future political career at some point, I'm too young in my career and passionate about my work to want to leave.

Free Press
Read. Reflect. React.
Have an opinion on this topic? Speak out.

But what about the other hundreds of qualified, motivated young people who want to make a difference? Why can't they run? The answer is, they can — and should. In 2005, four Seattle City Council seats open up, as does the seat for the mayor of Seattle.

Imagine if people from my generation managed to become elected into at least one or more of these positions. Seattle would never be the same. Local politics would receive an infusion of vigor and energy the likes of which we've never seen.

While it may seem daunting and impossible to actually be voted into political office as a young person, it's not as tough as you may think.

Getting on the ballot would be easy, and getting votes not much harder.

Getting on the ballot requires either 1 percent of the salary of the position for which you're applying, or an equivalent amount (in dollars) of signatures. For example, the 2003 filing fee for a City Council position, which has a salary of $84,815, was $848.15, unless you gathered 848 signatures.

Further, getting enough votes shouldn't be impossible. In our last election, the least number of votes needed to win was 62,383 by Tom Rasmussen for City Council. With around 35,000 students at the University of Washington, for example, you're halfway there (though you'd need to account for non-resident students).

I believe that a movement to get out the 18- 29-year-old vote for a young candidate would be far more successful than the efforts for candidates who are less closely connected to the younger population.

Visit all of the local community colleges and high schools, let them know you're starting a youth movement, and you're on your way.

This isn't a call for every class clown across Seattle to run for office. It is a plea for those like me, looking for a way to make an impact, to do so in an unprecedented way.

If you're passionate about your beliefs, firmly believe you can make Seattle a better place and have the plan to go about it, run for office. You have my vote.

Election 2007, Like Already
Posted Nov. 20 at 9:06 am by Rick Anderson

Don't be closing that wallet just yet. It's less than a year before the next election and, for Seattle City Council members Jean Godden and Tom Rasmussen, you can't start too soon. Both already boast weighty campaign chests - $84,000 for Rasmussen, $80,000 for Godden - most of it raised in the past 11 months, city disclosure figures show. That's the payoff for employing the arm-twisting prowess of fundraiser Colby Underwood, the guy who helped Mayor Greg Nickels raise more than $1.1 million for his two election victories.
Conversely, council members David Della and Peter Steinbrueck, also up for reelection in 2007, are doing their own fundraising so far. Well, Della is anyway. He's got a respectable $43,000 in the bank. Steinbrueck has $21,000 - but $20,000 is carryover from his 2003 campaign. Thus, while his fellow council members were tapping donors for a collective $200,000 for 2007, Steinbrueck has raised all of $1,000. But you never want to peak too soon.

SEA- Know thy council! http://www.seattle.gov/council/guide.htm

5. What do Councilmembers do?
The City Council is a policy making body that also approves and adopts the City's budget. The Council provides for public safety and health, authorizes capital (building) improvements, levies taxes, oversees the finances and assets of the City, and promotes policy for the good of Seattle's citizens.

Most legislation is proposed by City departments in order to conduct departmental business. Some legislation comes from the Council members, who are responding to needs expressed by citizens. Council members work with their office staff and with the Legislative Department's Central Staff to research issues, generally developing alternatives before deciding on legislation. In addition, Council member's offices help citizens who are having difficulty getting a response to a problem from a City department.

6. Which Councilmember represents me?
Councilmembers are non-partisan and are elected at large to serve four-year, overlapping terms through citywide elections held in odd-numbered years. So each one of your Council members represents you. Since each Council member chairs at least one committee, and participates as vice chair or member of several other committees, citizens go to the Council member(s) whose committee(s) considers the type(s) of issue about which the citizen is currently concerned. A list of Council Committees and their membership is available on this site on the Committees & Agendas page.

7. Who is the Council President?
Nick Licata has been elected by his Council colleagues to serve as Council President for 2006-2007. In this capacity, Licata is the official head of the Legislative Department. The Council President coordinates the work of the Council, including establishment of committees and appointment of committee chairs and members. The Council President also presides over meetings of the Full Council. When the Mayor is absent from the City or incapacitated, the Council President assumes the duties and responsibilities of the Mayor.

I am going to be on here on the Global Hijack Tribe quite a bit this year, coordinating an election sweep with you and many other folks. Some of you said you'd run against me for city council this year, and now's your chance. I didn't think I 'd be up for this right now, but two of my close friends and general mayhem makers have called me up and asked if we were on. F!@+#!!!! yeah, we're on. So get busy, y'all. If you want to be involved with the legal, vote-having take-over of government in your town, stay tuned. I'm one of the point people for organizing the Great Seattle ??? of 2007. DeadLetter B is the point-of-contact for Portland.

Just remember, it takes the average candidate $200,000 and 120,000 votes to win a Seattle City Council Seat, worth about $100k of annual income. Do they really answer to us? I'm not 100% convinced. I do know that if you vote for me, I will post all of my activities that contribute to carbon emissions - where my food comes from (local, organic?); transportation (how much CO2 did that plane trip to Russia make, anyhow?) ; housing (yep, I'm in a co-op with 5 other adults and my kid - we all use one washer and dryer and grow our own veggies in the summer).

Transparent, accountable leadership is what you'd get from me. But not the Satyrs. Or the Bullshit Party. Or the Klowns. I'm of course, with Megalomaniacs for America. Don't trust those Nutbutter folks...we're going to find out if we can win a seat based purely upon people power, weirdness, and elbow grease. None of that old-style pocket lining, thank you very much!

More soon!

AJAI RAJ
04/05/05

Open Letter to Anyone Who Gives a Shit About Justice

I'm writing this in response to the spectacle that occurred in the LBJ Library on Tuesday, May 3rd, 2005, when Ann Coulter, a diabolical, ignorant, but nevertheless charismatic right-wing pundit, came to speak at UT. Ms. Coulter- yes, Ms, I'd personally think such a vocal female conservative would be making Bubba a meatloaf instead of addressing a politically-minded collegiate audience, but whatever- is the author of relentlessly mendacious anti-liberal books, such as Slander: Liberal Lies About the American Right and Treason: Liberal Treachery From the Cold War to the War on Terrorism. She's famous for having an ass that stores so many lies it makes clown-car designers envious. Like her or not (and if you do, I'm surprised you can read) she's a Big Fucking Deal.
The title of the front-page story covering Ms. Coulter's in the Texan was "Arrest Made at Coulter Speech". You could also have caught it on CBS or in the Austin-American Statesman. The general idea is that some jackass made a scene, and Ann Coulter was also there.
I am Ajai Raj, and I am a jackass.
In his article, which I enjoyed and commend him for, Mr. Sampath quoted the former president of the Student Events Center, the organization which arranged the event. He wrote:
"The person had been disruptive the entire event," said Matt Hardigree, former Student Events Center president. "He took the opportunity to say something lewd and offensive and then made masturbatory gestures as he exited."
And what do I have to say in rebuttal? Not a goddamn thing.
Matt Hardigree got it spot-on! From the beginning I was yelling obscenities along with my friends, roaring at Ms. Coulter's right-wing bullshit festival the way no one else had the balls to. Mr. Sampath writes in his article that (and this is my take) the protestors were told to be good all along. They were told to sit in the back and hold their signs and leave quietly. No wonder hippies get such a bad rap nowadays; protestors today might as well be ornaments on the Rightmobile. When I want someone to know I'm pissed off, I'm going to throw down and give them a good shit-ruining. I wanted to show Ms. Coulter that people are down if she wants to hold a circle-jerk, but we're not gonna do it her way. Not me, at least.
So yes, the Q&A session came around, and it was pathetic. Her slack-jawed fans got up and licked her face so she could pat them on the head- one schmuck offered to be her bodyguard, and she smiled, doubtlessly making a mental note that she wouldn't touch his nether regions if she were King Midas; liberal protestors posed well-intentioned but woefully timid questions and got shot down in a hail of ignorant shitfire from the She-Dragon. Standing in line awaiting my turn, I watched her send a moderate Republican, who had questioned the sheer incendiary magnitude of her rhetoric, walk away in tears when she tore him apart for daring to question her.
So yes, I saw my "opportunity to say something lewd and offensive." And I took it.
She had just said something about gay marriage, the typical rightwing bullshit spiel that is still convincing people that the Bible is really the Constitution. Knowing that taking the time to say something insightful, specific, or even slightly critical would get me a lame comeback and a ticket back to my seat, I realized that the only way to win this battle was to fight fire with fire. Or bullshit with bullshit. So, as reported in yesterday's Texan, I fired:
"You say that you believe in the sanctity of marriage," said Ajai Raj, an English sophomore. "How do you feel about marriages where the man does nothing but fuck his wife up the ass?"
And the crowd fell silent. Ms. Coulter stood stunned atop her stage, unprepared for a jackass to say something so utterly crude and to the point. Her pompous and mean air is enough to stump questioners into timidity, I wasn't about to let her stop me. The audience members looked at me with raw disbelief; later, even friends who know me well admitted that they'd been surprised at how vulgar I'd been. The others in line for Q&A, mostly liberals, looked at me like I'd set their cause back forty years.
Did I give a shit? No. If I had a message, it's that the whole thing was a joke- hell, our whole political scene today is a fucking joke. Everyone's out to either pat themselves on the back for being right or whine about how they're being wronged without ever lifting a finger to fight for it.
So rather than dignify anyone else, I "made masturbatory gestures" as I exited. Again, bingo! I danced a jig and set my hand a-jerkin' at crotch-level, sneering for the crowd and letting them know I was ready to roll. I yelled to my friends that we were gonna split and made for the door.
Two cops approached me. I figured they were going to tell me I had to leave, so I said "You can't fire me, because I quit!"
"You're under arrest."
It was my turn to be shocked. I tried to ask them what for; saying "fuck her in the ass"" at a college isn't a crime, last time I checked. They apparently mistook my inquiries for aggression, and grabbed me roughly and slammed me into the door. Within seconds the backmost two or three rows was surging forward, following the scene as the cops dragged me out the door. They yelled and chanted; my friends were more outraged than I'd ever seen any of them before. As they pushed me into the car, I heard my good friend Jeffrey Stockwell scream, "THIS ISN'T A JUSTICE SYSTEM! YOU CALL THIS PROTECTING AND SERVING?!" The crowd took up a chant at the UTPD officers: "Shame! Shame! Shame!"
Shame is fucking right. When I asked the cops why they thought I needed cuffing, they told me that they didn't even see anything that happened, they were just doing as told.
As a good friend pointed out to me, it's a scary thought that people who are given weapons and the authority to forcibly detain people can act without knowledge of a situation.
I'm writing this at 7:15 A.M. Wednesday, having recouped over a few cigarettes and some coffee after being released from jail around 3 A.M. I had a party waiting for me- twenty or so friends and supporters, who showered me with gifts such as a card, sodas, cigarettes, food, and a Blondie CD (go figure). Several civil rights-interested associations approached me, offering pro bono legal representation and showing their support.
I have no regrets. Was I jackass? Yes. Oh Christ, yes. But here's the question people ought to ask themselves. Did I deserve to be arrested? Did the cops need to rough me up for saying bad words at what was at least masquerading as an open dialogue? Do the people of Texas- hell, of America- feel that "potty mouth" belongs on the list of punishable crimes along with "aggravated assault" and "armed robbery"?
As stated in the Texan article, I am charged with Disorderly Conduct, which is a Class C Misdemeanor. Other Class C Misdemeanors include DWIs, possession of drug paraphernalia, and speeding tickets. Without getting into the justification for all of those, were my naughty words and crude hand motions as imposing a danger?
This isn't about politics anymore, however it might have come about. Either you think it's an absurd outrage or you think swearing is a crime. Trey Parker and Matt Stone are Republicans, for Christ's sake. Raise your hand if you watch South Park.
This is about drawing a line in the sand. It made me proud to see people standing up and calling bullshit when bullshit needed to be called. All politics aside, people ought to ask themselves, how far should our representatives of "justice" be allowed to go? Do the American people believe in censorship rights for the rich and famous?
I know I didn't slay the insidious evil that is Ann Coulter, but I did give her pause. She can easily go to another college or hoedown or whatever and spew her tired rhetoric without worrying about me. But I'm not the only one who feels this way. Other people will call her on her shit.
And hey, Ann, don't come back to UT. We're better than your bullshit here. And I can think of at least one jackass here who can dish it out better than you.

Questions, In time hopefully answers

I havent had much time to think about this, but since it seems to be a goal I figuered it might be nice to pose the question.

So say we take control.. of at least our area... how exactly can we make changes that move twords our prefered system, yet still allow a safe interaction with the rest of the areas that are not in our control????

The current system is set up with lots of checks and balances, and it seems very hard to do things without the support of those with power and money. Certainly this is somthing we would like to eliminate with time...

I dont think that once there is "control" that things can all of sudden be moved to a new system. Instead there will have to be a series of laws and projects, one building on top of the other, that slowly move twords the desired goal. Surely there are things like these already in the works, but do they have a centralized focus?

Maybe in time other places will see the progress and catch on, causing a domino effect.... but it will take a lot of carful planning, a lot of prep time, just to get these things set up, and ready to fall into place.

The system is currently setup to prevent sudden and radical change, and without the support of almost the entire community, the change may be stomped out, or lost in time.

So the real question is, what baby steps can we take, that the majority of "them" (not "us") will agree with, that can actually be a movement twords our goal. How do we make radical change not seem radical?

The problem is, a move twords equality, leaves those with power in fear... how can we remove that fear.. the fear of change.. the fear of no power or control. We seek control to give control to all, yet there still must be some reasurance that the people who currently have control will still have their fair say... of course there is an alternative.... turning them into us, thereby removing the fear.

What things can help deminish the desire for power and control? It can only be achieved with asurance of saftey, but is this something we can really give? Do we really seek to leave behind the greedy and power hungry? The selfish? And if we do, are we any better then them?

So the real question is, what steps can be taken to turn more of "them" into "us" ? As that happens, and the support increases, the changes can become more radical, and the true movement can begin.

Any Thoughts?

I see the change through the family, through the schools, through the education of the next generation, and possibly the current. It is only through the evolution of culture can we truely move on to a better society... we can lay the ground works for them here and now, so when they are ready to take over, we will be there waiting for them with all the support they need.

Or maybe now is the time... we shall continue to gather, and with time we shall see, how much power we truely have, so that we can give it all back, to the ones who love all.

Bush's inauguration speech?

Thought you might enjoy this . . .
it comes from www.beforetheflood.com

Exclusive leaked excerpt from George W. Bush re-inauguration speech, January 2005

My fellow Americans, my name is George W. Bush, and I am your president.

I have been your president for the last four years, and I will continue to serve the American people, to the best of my ability, for the next four years.

These last years have seen a great testing of the American soul. These have been tough times, some of the toughest America has ever known. We have known greatness, we have known sorrow, we have heard the calling of history, and we have risen to this call. We have lived through a time of great fear together. Who amongst you does not remember the terrible events of September 11 th . Those events made me the president I am, a war president. Though there are many who disagreed with my policies, I always believed I was doing the right thing. And 53 million of you voted for me across our great nation, in a historic vote. For that I am proud and grateful. You also believed that the war on terrorism was right, the only path we could take. Your vote showed me your confidence in this long and difficult war on evil. And as your president, in my second term, I am determined to do what is best to protect each and every one of you.

So this speech will come as a shock to all of you who have come to know me so far. I stand here before you today, the day of my re-inauguration, a changed man. In fact, I stand before you with a vision, a vision brought to me by the almighty God. The God I now know, of all peoples on earth.

My fellow Americans, like all of you, I watch television. I watch the different news networks, and I too wept for the victims of the terrible wave that swept through South East Asia, killing over a hundred thousand people. Somehow as I watched, and the numbers of dead rose, I started to get a terrible feeling. I had recently read reports of the numbers of civilians killed in Iraq in our war on terror. The numbers were very similar, so much so that I suddenly felt a great shock go through me. The images of the little children orphaned, the widows, the men who lost their wives, mothers who lost their sons, friends who lost their friends. Somehow these images started to get confused in my mind with all those civilians in Iraq, ordinary people like those killed by the tsunami, all with family, all with friends, all in mourning. I am telling you, the American people, and the whole world this: something broke in my heart, something in my soul has changed forever. Do not be afraid, because I must tell you - God spoke to me, and he changed me. He has brought me to my knees and saved my soul.

I went to bed and prayed, I prayed as I have never prayed before. And this is why I am taking this unprecedented step today. I speak to you from my heart, with God's words in my mouth.

God told me, all killing is wrong. No action justifies killing another man. Even if that man has killed your mother, your father, your son, your daughter, your brother. If that was true then the family of every single civilian killed accidentally in our war in Iraq, in our wars in other parts of the planet, would have the right to kill us, the people who hurt them. How could it ever end? God told me, he spoke in my heart. He said ' all killing must stop now '. He said, 'there is no excuse, it is all confusion, heartlessness, ignorance'. He told me, we the American people have made great mistakes, we have hurt and maimed many people, not only in Iraq, but in many other conflicts, and with many of our policies. Indeed, our country is not even our country. This great land once belonged to the American Indian, whose names we barely know now. We came from all over the earth, to escape injustice, in the pursuit of liberty and freedom, and we perpetuated the very things we longed to escape. We were unjust and barbaric to the people who had lived on this land so long. We stole their liberty to create our own. And then we, along with many others, enslaved and oppressed a great workforce of human beings from around the world. On the backs of these black men and women, our great nation was built. And God told me that this is wrong. We are not alone in our wrong-doing, there are many others on the planet who must also atone . But God told me that in the roots of things, there you will find the poison in the fruit. He told me that we Americans must lead the way out of the wilderness of our own making.

My fellow Americans, I stand today before you, a crushed and humbled man. I have been arrogant, we have been arrogant. We as a people have forgotten our mission on earth. Democracy cannot be forced onto other people by a people who once stole their freedom, who daily abuse that freedom with greed and overabundance. He said, you take your poisoned and rotting fruit, and you try to plant it in soil made barren by madness. I tell you, God has shaken me to my core. He said, your people are greedy, they have stolen all the fruit in the orchard, while the rest of the world starves outside the gates you have built. You are surprised that so many hate you, but they hate you because you are killing them. He said, we are the greatest murderers on earth, because we have the greatest power, the greatest ability to help, and we have not used that power well. In fact, we have abused it. It is our highest purpose to lead the way, to share, to take the love and experience of the many nations within our nation, and bring the world together as one. Every day in the world today, 500 million people are malnourished, 10 million people die each year from malnutrition. While we here in the states are dying from obesity, we are the fattest nation on the earth. Most people on earth do not have drinking water, no shelter, no food, they have no hope. And we Americans, we have more wealth, more abundance, more goods than anywhere else on the earth. The American people are taking more drugs for depression than anywhere else on the planet. God told me, he spoke loud and clear in my heart. He said, your people are sad, they are hiding from themselves, they wake with a weary heart and they take false emotions in the shape of a pill, because they know that what they do is wrong. They are dying from guilt, they are eating to forget, they are buying to ignore, they are staggering under the weight of goods stolen from people who have nothing. Do you understand America? We are wrong. We must make amends. We must fulfill our destiny. God spoke in my ear, and in my soul I heard his call. He said, the American people have been lost on a road started long ago, but that road is leading nowhere. It is time to build a new road, a road to heaven on earth. God told me, George you must be brave, your heart must open, and you must be the first to repent, to transform a dying world into a living one. He said, your people are not alone with the sickness in their souls. But your nation is the strongest, and therefore the weakest, and America is leading the rest of the world down a path of great misery. God told me that our nation is special though. He has chosen us for a great mission, the greatest mission on earth. I tell you America, he thundered in my heart. He said that our responsibility is all the greater because every nation on earth is represented in our one nation . This is what makes us great. Not our power, nor our money, our huge abundance and wealth. It is our diversity. It is that we are all of earth in one people. It is our destiny to unite the peoples of the earth under one flag. We must make amends. We must go on our knees to every mother of every child that has died in our wars, and we must feel her pain, and heal the rifts we have created.

Or this world will end.

God has warned me. We have such little time. We have created such horrors, such monsters of hatred and division. Such evil seeds have been planted in the environment, they can only grow. He gave us free will because he loves us. And like loving parents who watch their child fall and learn to walk well, he has hoped and dreamed and loved us nonetheless. But, our Father sees that we are like a tiny child blundering to the edge of a cliff. This is our last warning . We must unite. Or we will perish, in great cataclysms of suffering.

If we are to survive, if our souls are to be nourished by love, then we must learn to love. We must no longer be split into warring factions of nation against nation, tribe against tribe, human against other human. We, the people, we, the individual world leaders must take a historic step. We must dissolve nation states and become one world, a world where all citizens are equal, where no one country has more than any other, where no peoples are enslaved, where our every decision asks 'who needs shelter, who needs love, who needs food and water and brotherhood.' We must ask 'who must we forgive, as we wish to be forgiven.' We will no longer be British, American, Afghani, Iraqi, Chinese, Indian. We must become true humans : all of us citizens of the planet Earth. The earth is our home planet, and we are its people. We are one. God told me, this is the first and only rule of love: we are one. We are all connected. All separations are an illusion. All greed is confusion. All evil is ignorance and fear. When you hate me, you hate yourself. When I kill you, I kill myself.

Here is god's unprecedented resolution: the dissolution of all old nation states, of all old political boundaries, and a mass reconciliation of the peoples of the planet.

God spoke loudly in my heart and he said, love does not depend on rhetoric, it does not depend on passport booths at airports or officials in embassies with their little stamps. It does not depend on armies or politics or even language. Love has no borders, no boundaries. It is a union of the mind, a rejoicing of the heart. It needs no defense, it needs no propagation. Love is a country that is not confined by borders. Its constitution is based on the principles of love, which are community, sharing, forgiveness, accountability, empathy, and equality. Love needs no arbitrary line in the sand drawn to define it. It exists eternally in our souls, in our consciousness. Though we may be sad to see the notions of country disappear, God has spoken. And he has shown me that a country, a cathedral, God himself even, is in the human heart . It is not in some shoddy piece of paper, nor in any physical realities that we must defend or even celebrate.

God showed me that our pride, the great belief of the American people in our own way of life, is no different from the pride or belief of any other people on the earth. Yes, we may seem to have some vital differences, but when you examine the basic meanings of all cultures on earth, we all want the same things: peace, shelter for our families, safety for our people, food, comfort, and love. We were all babies once too. And as the Dalai Llama has said, even the most seemingly evil evil-doer does evil out of his own misguided belief that it will bring him happiness, that it will bring him well being. We are that evil-doer, America. Who are we to defend ourselves and in so doing, hurt and kill and murder others?

God asked me why we as Americans, were so much more deserving of happiness, of luxury, of abundance, than other people on the planet? What had we done to deserve it? Why were other peoples suffering so, while we dance, and celebrate our own good fortune? He showed me the accidents of birth that meant that this child might be born into a rich country, a country with great opportunity, while this other tiny child might be born into a country where there was no food, no education, no job, and no possibility of love or shelter. In my own mind, he put the two babies side by side. He asked me; why does this one deserve better than the other? I realised to my horror that there is a fundamental error in our American constitution. God led me to understand. There can be no democracy without equality, there can be no equality unless it is worldwide.

Until only very recently, we had no global networks of communication and logistics, so we could very easily ignore or deny the suffering of others on the planet. We could even deny our own part in it, as, far away, it was hard to see the relationship between massive wealth in one part of the world and massive starvation in another. But God has told me that our technology has a divine purpose. It is meant to bring us together once more. We are, for the first time in history, truly connected . To have equality in one culture but not another, would be like an ill person thinking themselves well, simply because, unable to see or feel his toes very well, he has not realised they are rotting off. No matter how healthy the rest of the body, if parts of it are ill, eventually, it will poison the whole

I speak to you Americans, you humans all over the planet, and tell you I am sorry . I am sorry for the mess we are in. We are not alone in our errors, but we have the most power , so we are more responsible. Forgive us. Forgive me.

I have wept such bitter tears of humiliation at our own pride, at our arrogance, at our rigid self belief, our construction of national identities that we then used to attack and undermine other national identities, never realising how misguided we were. Never realising that we were in fact attacking ourselves.

I now know that we, in our greed, in our blindness, our selfishness, and ignorance, created the very monster we seek to destroy. The true causes of terrorism are poverty, inequality, rage, jealousy, and destructive emotions that come from being oppressed, and oppressed again. The true causes of evil are inequality, injustice, selfishness, willful blindness, greed, and fear.

People of the world, hear my voice. For I speak with God's words, I am only the ear that heard him in the wilderness of my own heart.

We are one. We are one people, we have many faces, many facets, we are diverse, we are glorious in our many aspects, but we are the same , we are one . We even fight each other for the same reasons, just from the opposing side. How many times did we call our foe evil, how many times did our foe call us evil? How deeply did we believe that others were somehow different, bad , not like us, not deserving of good, not deserving of life, health, happiness. How many times did we invoke God to justify our reckless defense of our own selfish good fortune, or to defend our beliefs? How many times did we, particularly in the west, believe that the rest of the world was just jealous of us? Why did we not wonder what it was that we had done to deserve our good fortune, what we had done to earn that good fortune? How could we have denied our own legacy of slavery , our colonial past? How could we forget that we wiped out virtually a whole people to make our home? All the indigenous cultures of the earth, ironically , sadly , have always been the ones who said that the earth did not belong to us , but we, to it. Did we wipe them out so we wouldn't have to listen?

I ask the peoples of the planet to forgive us, as we forgive those who have hurt us, attacked us, in their own confusion. We ask the peoples of the planet earth today, to unite , to honour all that was and is good in our individual cultures, but also to dissolve our boundaries from each other, our historic differences. Let us look at what we have in common, let us help each other, share our resources, open our borders to the terrible flow, the mass exodus of lost refugees, desperate families, all those seeking sanctuary. Let us stand proud in true equality and fairness. Let us learn to love, to truly love each other, and to honour and protect this beautiful planet that we have been hurting so profoundly.

God touched my heart. He told me to remember that the man over there who looks so different to you, that woman who dresses funny, that child who walks strangely, that person who is a different colour to you, they all have a human heart. They were born, as you and I were, naked, defenseless, and full of possibility. They had the same potential for love, for happiness, for joy and contentment. They may not look like you, smell like you, talk like you, or even feel like you, but they are all equal under God's eye. Even if you don't believe in God, or Allah, or whatever name you may call him or her, you can surely see that there is no way on this earth that one child is more deserving of shelter and life than another is. All children are equal. All children are pure love. We are those children. We are all those children. How did we lose our way from each other? How did we forget that?

So let today, my fellow humans, be the day that we start the process to inaugurate the first democratically elected world government, and let us celebrate the dissolution of old political and territorial boundaries. Let the doors now officially open. Let us commit to establishing a truly global economics, global society, one in which there is greater fairness, greater sharing and less suffering. All humans shall have the right to live, trade, love and grow in all parts of the planet.

We have much work to do, much weeping and forgiving and loving.

God has given me a plan. I ask you now, all you terrorists, you suffering peoples of the earth, you angry, you wounded, you self righteous, you frightened people. Come to the table. Bring your woes. Bring your fury and your rage and your unforgiveness. And we will listen, we will work with you to create the world we all need.

God has given me a plan. We must bring all the greatest minds and hearts and souls on the planet together in a panel of great and good intention. We must dismantle all the old systems. We must build new ones, built on the principles of love.

God told me. He said that we are a good people, despite our many faults. We mean well. He said there are no people on the planet with greater sincerity, and greater good intentions than Americans. But he said that we have become so lost that we have turned into what we fear. And we can and must remember our highest purpose, our calling from beyond the stars. He told me that we humans have such good in us, there are so many good people who wish for a better world, that what I say will be like water in the desert for the thirsty plant. He said that as I speak, each one of you who hears his words, through my voice, will be transformed and undergo a change of heart. You will love your neighbour as yourself because you are your neighbour. You will share willingly all that you have, because it will give you great joy to help your brother. You will never again forget the calling of your highest self.

So today, I encourage all of us humans to explore, to grow, to share, to love, to live fully, to consider as Gandhi once said 'if your individual action right now will benefit the tiniest most suffering child on the planet'. We must forgive, reconcile, weep, feel with all our hearts that we are one, that we do not need to war, to fight, to aggress anymore. We are secure, we know who we are . We are one. We are love.

things I have to do before I can totally take over my part of the world

I encourage you to make a list of things you need to do before you can take over. I am working towards each of these things as a means to the takeover. Notice if your takeover list involves any "can'ts" - those would indiacte ways that you are limiting yourself. You may have to ask for help from your community in order to get rid of the "can'ts" - your true friends will call you on your issues and help you get over them. Thanks to my loving community for all the support and help I get. I love you all.

I have to :
* file for my passport renewal
* file my taxes
* file my GST
* redo my certification
* clean my house
* finish my newest movie, "Ripe"
* Write by Intra biz plan with Ben
* Wrtie my m project biz plan
* get everyone talking and organized

What my community can help me with:
Come to me with ideas! Come to me with leg work! Come to me with a place where we can all start having conversations among our communities. I need local comminities/political parties to start coming to me saying " we want to run ---- for --- office, and we need ? to accomp-lish that. Deadletter/Nutbutter wants to hand you the apple, aka, help you have what you need to do what you need to do.

OK, all of you, here it is:

we are going to flood each local Seattle election for the next three years. We are inviting every community to dicuss what it is that they want from their city. We can all work together to get what we want. The Clown Party will run a candidate; the Bullshit party will run a candidate; the nutbutter party, the deadletter party - any community out there should run a candidate for office, if the goal is to have things be different and better.

We are starting the great Seattle ??? of 2005. Flyers. Stickers. Questions. Discussions. We are also making a movie of How to take over your city (by peaceful means).

Please veryone, post your ideas and candidacies.

What Global Hijack is all about!

So, after the elections and everyone was upset...complaining is not the answer - yes, it is a necessary step. What we need to do is take over! City council seats come up for challenge in 2006. By then, we could have had whole comminities have massive discussions about EVERYTHING - gay mariage, health care, the environment, education, etc. Once all of the communities decide what it is they want and need and what they are willing to contribute (work, money, etc) we can all rise up and take Seattle into our own hands.

What do you want to do with Seattle? (If you don't live in Seattle, please follow this group to learn how to get your city back into the hands of the people. Then you can take back your state. Once all of the states are actually run by communities living in those states, every state can appoint judges, make laws, push states' rights and the federal governemnt will be vastly disempowered.)

Once we have taken over Seattle - clowns, space virgins, deadletter, alien love monkies, orange people, arson island people, old folks, young folks, black folks, white folks, asian, native, hispanic folks, girls, boys, etc - we can set our sites on state offices - reps, state senators. If we take over Olympia and the governor's office - through eletions - peaceful! We can start appointing judges. Making laws. Showing the rest of the country what can be done by communities working together, discussing issues, figuring out ways to solve problems and make life better.

Got any ideas?!

-k
